Advertorial
“How old are you?” is a typical question we’re asked. What if we answered with two ages? You might reply like this – “My chronological age is 50, but my biological age is 40!” as you say with a cheerful and bragging tone.
Life Technologies company Ponce De Leon health (PDLH) states it has been able to reverse biological aging with its proprietary ingredients called LifeTabs™ under their brand Rejuvant™
Accelerated Aging and Poor Healthspan
It claims their supplement shields against multiple pathways associated with accelerated aging and poor healthspan (the number of healthy years in your life). These pathways include senescent (zombie) cells, oxidative stress and toxic ammonia buildup.
PDLH CEO Tom Weldon states that senescent cells are cells that don’t divide anymore but won’t die off either. They become zombie-like and begin sending distress signals to healthy cells, which in turn also become senescent.
The 2nd pathway it combats is oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is a state that occurs when there’s an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants in your body.
“Free radicals running wild in the body, is not a good thing!” Says Weldon
Weldon continues and says, “over time, this leads to inflamm-aging and the onset of age-related conditions including poor cardiovascular health, poor musculo-skeletal health, poor joint health, and age-related brain-fog.”
“We’ve all heard about the benefits of high protein, so we usually think of having more protein as a good thing, right? Well, not really,” says Weldon.
He states that when the body breaks down protein, it forms trace amounts of ammonia.
This ammonia can build up over your lifetime in your brain, kidneys, liver, and muscles has a toxic effect and leads to decreased healthspan and lifespan due to inflamm-aging.
All of these affect our healthspan and lifespan.
AKG Production Drops after Turning 40 Years of Age
Before the age of 40, it’s much easier for us to deal with these attacks on our bodies. This is because our bodies produce alpha-ketoglutarate (AKG) to combat senescence, oxidative stress and ammonia buildup. However, our bodies AKG production significantly drops after turning 40. This, in turn, has an accelerated aging effect on us.
So PDLH created their supplement with the main ingredient of AKG in combination with vitamin A for men and vitamin D for women as they found these combinations had the most efficacy. Their proprietary formula also consists of a slow-release tablet to ensure it’s working all day long, not just for a couple of hours.
The Science Behind Rejuvant LifeTabs
The supplement was developed by feeding mice combinations of compounds identified as longevity extenders in previous animal studies. Researchers at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging in California assessed the mice for hallmarks of aging, such as frailty, hair loss, tremors and difficulty walking.
The study showed the group that received the Rejuvant’s proprietary blend was much more energetic, viral and healthy. The scientists found that combining Ca-AKG with vitamins improved healthspan by 41% and boosted lifespan by 12% on average. [1]
Reversing Biological Age
Rejuvant also sells an optional biological aging test kit with its supplement, which you can take and get your baseline results before starting their supplement. They recommend re-testing after 6 months to see the difference in your biological age.
PDLH believes that a lower biological age leads to better healthspan and a delay in age-related diseases, which is exactly what happened to the mice in the study.
Several PDLH employees have taken their baseline and re-tested after 3-4 months and have found their biological age drop several years, including one employee by 7 years and another by 11 years.
Recent advancements in aging research view the biological age as a valuable total health metric.
If your Biological Age is higher than your Chronological Age, then:
- You may be more prone to age-related conditions and frailty
- Your morbidity stage (the unhealthy years of your lifespan) might start earlier in life than someone with a younger Biological Age.
However, by having a lower Biological Age, your chances of being affected by:
With the advancements in aging research and biological age testing, we may have two numbers on our birthday cake.
